2. Welcoming new people with open arms… and venues

The Creative Conversations we’ve had to date have highlighted the fact that the Arts Council and arts organisations need to take a look in the mirror and ask “how welcoming and open are we?” This sparked a discussion about what we should do to improve the availability of the arts?

Here are some ideas already discussed:

• Buildings need to be more welcoming, e.g. start a ‘café’ for first-time ACW grant funding applicants
• Audiences want to recognise themselves in art experiences
• Invest time in developing partnerships
• Trust and apparent openness between audience and venue

Mae’r Sgryrsiau Creadigol rydym ni wedi’u cael hyd yma wedi tynnu sylw at y ffaith fod angen i Gyngor y Celfyddydau a sefydliadau celfyddydol eraill ystyried pa mor groesawgar ac agored ydyn ni mewn gwirionedd. • Galluogi cynulleidfa i ymddiried mewn sefydliad drw fod yn agored, eglur a chlir

Thanks to all who have participated in Creative Conversations to date. You can continue to interact on line with some of the topics and questions that have come up and help us push our thinking on.

Not everyone sees the value and benefits of the arts. For those of us who love and experience the arts regularly, how could we share the experience with more people?

Here are some of your ideas:

• Resonate with the audience in the same way as the Tower of London Poppies.
• Get the right voices at the Government table.
• Encourage people from outside the sector to participate.
• Make better use of broadcast media.
• Start a new discourse, not talk about it.
• Take funding risks.
• Experience the creative process not just the end result.
